Be sure the light is on the face of the person speaking to you.
Ask your host/hostess to turn off the radio or television set and explain that you can hear better without background noise.
Take speech-reading classes. Your CHHA branch can assist you in locating when and where they are available.
Keep your sense of humour!
Things to remember when you’re speaking to someone who is hard of hearing:
- Do not shout
- Speak clearly and slowly
- Re-phrase a misunderstood sentence
- Move away from background noise
- Do not obscure your mouth
